Web Developer

We are currently seeking a talented web developer for immediate hire. As AsylumConnect's Web Developer, you will report directly to (and work closely with) AsylumConnect’s Director of User Experience and Software Development, Tiff Lu. 

The Web Developer will help AsylumConnect with website design, coding, and web application development. 

We’re looking for a driven individual who is excited about making our website as user-friendly and visual as possible. This is an essential position and a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a working knowledge of web design and development. 

Responsibilities:                                                                                   Qualifications:

  • Assist with web application development.
  • Improve user design experience: Innovate the site map for convenience and intuitiveness (e.g. cut down on bulky links, click-throughs, etc.) 
  • Regularly update key information (e.g. new team members, updates, etc.)
  • Facilitate any position-specific website needs.
  • Proofread/troubleshoot the site: Alert to site errors that require content revision (e.g. someone published a dead link, faulty information). 
  • Quality control for published resources (e.g. Is formatting standardized? Is information properly entered?)
  • Removal of invalid resources upon request.
  • Marketing and SEO: Monitor and report on site use, footprints, user data, etc. Work to drive traffic to the website and make sure that it ranks highly in search engines.
  • Test site in different browsers and ensure people with different computers can access, and ensure the site is mobile-friendly. 
  • Plan for future changes to the website. 
  • Interest in web design and development.
  • Experience with web application development.
  • Working skill set in web design and development and/or in Squarespace, HTML, CSS, WordPress or other content management system(s).

volunteer coordinator

We are looking for a friendly Volunteer Coordinator to lead our efforts to recruit motivated volunteers to join our cause. AsylumConnect depends on the time and commitment of our volunteers to achieve our mission. In this role, you will oversee and manage our catalog volunteers (those volunteers living in the cities where our catalog is currently operating) and our translator volunteers. You will develop volunteer position descriptions, spearhead community outreach to find volunteers, participate in the hiring and training of volunteers, and volunteer recognition. You will report directly to (and work closely with) our Director of Human Resources. 

We’re looking for an organized and personable individual who is passionate about growing our volunteer program. 

Responsibilities:    

  • Report (and work closely with) the Director of Human Resources.   
  • Participate in the hiring and training of volunteers. 
  • Help to recruit volunteers (on the ground in cities where our catalog is operating and translators). 
  • Serve as the primary contact person for all volunteers. 
  • Maintain regular communication with volunteers (i.e. sending out monthly emails to all volunteers as well as touching base with individual volunteers periodically/as needed). Regularly update our team on the progress of and any challenges faced by volunteers. 
  • Provide support to volunteers to help accomplish assigned tasks. 
  • Encourage and facilitate collaboration between volunteers. 
  • Brainstorm and execute volunteer recognition programs.

data MANAGER 

The Data Manager will play a pivotal role in growing and improving the AsylumConnect catalog. You will work closely with our Director of Catalog, Emma Biegacki, to make resource verification more comprehensive, simplify the resource collection process, and ensure our resource database remains error-free. This is an exciting opportunity to improve your data analysis skills while helping us to ensure the quality of our catalog.  

We’re looking for a meticulous, hard-working individual who is passionate about the AsylumConnect catalog

Responsibilities:    

  • Report (and work closely with) the Director of Catalog. 
  • Brainstorm ways to improve resource verification for the catalog. 
  • Assist with the cleaning-up and maintaining of the resource database for the catalog. 
  • Help to organize and coordinate the data collection and verification effort for the catalog. Update the data collection and verification rubrics as needed. 
  •  Complete other catalog-related tasks as assigned by the Director of Catalog. 

 Qualifications:

  • Interest/background in one or more of the following area(s): database management, data analysis, research, statistics. 
  • Superior written and oral English language skills. 
  • Working skill set in Excel, and/or Squarespace, HTML, CSS, WordPress or other content management system(s). 
  • Bonus(es): extensive experience working with data, knowledge of analysis software (SPSS, SAS).  
  • Technical, data-driven, meticulous. 
  • Superior understanding of the AsylumConnect catalog.

Social media manager 

We are recruiting for a creative Social Media Manager. As AsylumConnect's Social Media Manager, you will work to grow our presence across social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.). Your primary focus will be on improving AsylumConnect's Facebook and Twitter accounts. This position offers an exciting opportunity to hone your social media skills while playing an integral role in our advocacy work.   

Responsibilities:    

  • Report (and work closely with) the Director of Marketing and Publicity. 
  • Regularly update and monitor AsylumConnect's social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn). 
  • Follow news and social media accounts related to LGBTQ asylum seekers/asylees and global LGBTQ rights. 
  • Work with teammates to brainstorm and launch innovative and creative multimedia campaigns using social media. Work with Co-directors, the CFO, and related staff member(s)/associate(s) on any future online fundraising campaigns. 
  • Actively stay up-to-date on AsylumConnect's activities and growth.

 Qualifications:

  • Interest/background in one or more of the following area(s): communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, computer science.  
  • Extensive experience using social platforms (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
  • Advanced computer, research, and writing skills (e.g. the ability to write effective copy in different styles depending on the social platform).
  • Bonus: knowledge of writing for Search Engine Optimization (SEO). 
  • Enthusiasm for raising awareness for our cause and organization. 

Blogger 

We are searching for a dynamic Blogger to curate regular content for the AsylumConnect blog. In this role, you will help interested individuals (team members, supporters, donors, partners, etc.) stay connected and up-to-date on our progress. You will also help to raise much-needed awareness for our cause. As AsylumConnect's Blogger, you will work to make our blog as interactive and informative as possible. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in writing, advocacy, and creative expression. 

Responsibilities:    

  • Report (and work closely with) the Director of Marketing and Publicity. 
  • Brainstorm relevant topics and write bi-weekly blog posts for the AsylumConnect blog. Possible topics include: relevant outside content related to seeking asylum in the U.S., global LGBTQ rights, and immigration-related issues. Also, can feature initiative updates and beneficiaries' testimonials on blog. 
  • Curate corresponding visual content for blog posts. 
  • Identify and recruit AsylumConnect team members, supporters, and others to write guest blog posts to share their opinions on our organization and cause.
  • Regularly update and monitor AsylumConnect's blog. Respond to comments on blog. 
  • Work with social media team to promote blog posts. 
  • Stay up-to-date on AsylumConnect's activities and growth.

 Qualifications:

  • Interest/background in one or more of the following area(s): blogging, communications, journalism, advocacy. 
  • Superior written and oral English language skills. 
  • Advanced research, writing, and editing skills. 
  • Exciting vision for the AsylumConnect blog. 
  • Creative, detail-oriented, proven ability to meet deadlines.
