#ProudTogether-Why does LGBTQ Pride month matter?

In honor of Pride month, we're proud to announce #ProudTogether. AsylumConnect is proud to share our team’s candid thoughts on LGBTQ pride and welcoming LGBTQ asylum seekers to America.

This week, we asked our AslyumConnect team, “Why does LGBTQ Pride month matter?”

Joanna-Creative Director To me, Pride is about celebration: a celebration of who you are, the people around you, and what we stand for. Pride is about celebrating victories, whether tiny or large, on a personal or global scale. It also means that there is still work that needs to be done, that there is so much more we can do as a community to ensure that everyone can love and live safely as their true selves.

Jordyn-HR & Recruitment Manager I believe pride month is important because it shows how far the LGBTQ community has come and what they have accomplished over the years.

Renaudo-HR & Recruitment Manager LGBTQ Pride month matters because it's the period during which we celebrate who we are, how far we've come, and remind ourselves and everyone else that we will not be shamed into the shadows. We do not have to apologize for who we are, nor acquiesce to anyone else's idea of who we should be. Our lives have value. Our lives are beautifully and wonderfully diverse. And we refuse to be ashamed of that.

Meghan-Marketing Manager LGBTQ Pride month is so important because it dedicates time to celebrate the community and spread awareness. Throughout June, LGBTQ individuals and allies create a dedicated space for stories, events, education, experiences, and more, bringing discussions of LGBTQ issues, identities, and culture to the forefront. This celebration works toward creating a future in which members of the LGBTQ community can live without fear and freely express their identity.
